Résumé :

Since 1992 we have weaned in excess of 100 tetraplegic patients from ventilatory support and in the early years the majority were decannulated and discharged with no on-going respiratory support (pubilshed 1998.1.). We have developed a weaning pathway (available at www.spinalinjurycentre.org.uk) and through audit hope to be able to use it to develop a tool to identify those whom need long term respiratory support, not only for clinical need but to more easily justify the appropriate funding for care and equipment. We will present cases that in retrospect and would have benefitted from being discharged with respiratory support and our current status. 1.
