The poster presents the development of Home Mechanical Ventilator treatment from 1952 - after the polio epidemic - until now. The poster shows the change during time in the categories of patients, we are offering Home Mechanical Ventilation. In the 1950s patients solely covered polio patients, disabled to breathe. At first they were offered large equipment such as tank ventilator, later tracheotomy and simple prototypes of ventilators as lifesaving equipment (for example Pulsula). To day we treat a broad diagnostic spectrumof patients in all age brackets. Danish patients are offered a span of highly advanced and pocket sized lifesaving treatment but also mechanical treatment that may improve life quality of life for patients suffering from different kinds of neuromuscular diseases. Treatment strategies, development and try-out of technology and appliances take place in cooperation with the patients, the patient organisations, the medical industry and the Danish respiratory centres.
