Aims : To observe the cardiovascular diseases and the effect of CPAP therapy on high blood pressure evolution at patients with SAS Methods : We used somnography registrations, medical records, resting ECG results, lab tests of 53 patients with SAS, between 34 and 74 years old, 6 women and 47 men. Results : There were 45 patients with obstructive SAS, 4 with overlap syndrome and 4 with central SAS. 6 patients had low SAS severity, 8 moderate SAS and 39 severe SAS The prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors at patients with SAS was : 28%with hyper cholesterolemia, 26%mix dyslipidemia, 61%smokers, 4%exsmokers, 78%with obesity , 73%with high blood pressure and 17% patients with metabolic syndrome. The prevalence of cardiovascular diseases was : 46 % with ischemic heart disease and 7% of them with myocardial infarction, 71% with high blood pressure. The rate of ischemic changes, others than myocardial infarction (ST segment depression and T wave inversion) at patients with severe SAS comparative with those withmoderate SAS was 60%respectively 20%. The resting ECG changes showed that the rate of myocardial infarction at patients with SAS was very high ( 6 patients from 53 had myocardial infarction ), 4 of themhaving severe SAS and 2moderate SAS, the rate ofmyocardial infarction being higher at patients with severe SAS than with those with moderate SAS. From 18 people with high blood pressure without any treatment the CPAP therapy decreased blood pressure by 20 mm Hg. 6 patients from these ones had normal blood pressure after CPAP therapy. Conclusions : The prevalence of ischemic heart disease expressed by resting ECG changes is very high. The rate of myocardial infarction was 15 percents and was higher at patients with severe SAS. Also the prevalence of all cardiovascular risk factorswas very high at patientswith SAS. The oxygen dessaturations during the night time at patients with SAS has an important contribution on cardiovascular diseases, increasing their prevalence and exacerbation comparativewith the rest of populationwithout SAS. At patientswith high blood pressurewithout treatment CPAP therapy decreased blood pressure value by 20 mm Hg .
