Les activateurs du plasminogène, en transformant le plasminogène inactif en plasmine active, ont pour fonction d'assurer la lyse des caillots de fibrine. Ils jouent également un rôle dans la dégradation des composants de la lame basale des fibres musculaires (cf AO-4551-20318).
