Résumé : | Increasing attention has been devoted in the last few years to the use of functional scales and other assessments of muscle function and strength in neuromuscular disorders. A range of good functional outcome measures already exist which are ready for application in trials of SMA and DMD but there is also scope for further development. The choice of the appropriate functional outcome measures will depend on the circumstances of the particular trial, such as the length of the trial and the level of disability of the participants. While some measures include a vast range of abilities and appear to be more suitable for long term trials, other scales are more disease-specific and are more suitable for relatively short term trials in selected populations. We will review the pros and cons of the existing scales providing a map of the available measures for forthcoming trials |
